BOSTON — A Coast Guard 47-foot Motor Lifeboat crew along with the Provincetown Harbormaster and Provincetown Police and Fire Departments rescued a fisherman after he fell overboard Saturday night near MacMillan Pier in Provincetown. Coast Guard watchstanders received a mayday call from the fishing vessel Resolute at around 9:30 pm Saturday stating a crewmember had fell overboard near the pier. PORTSMOUTH, Va. — After evaluating the port conditions following the passage of Winter Storm Helena, the Captain of the Port (COTP) has revised the Port of Virginia restrictions.  Effective at midnight on Saturday, vessel traffic will be permitted to resume through the Hampton Roads COTP zone for all vessels bound to or from locations in the Maryland-National Capital Region COTP zone. NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard rescued two men and a dog near Reggio, Louisiana, Saturday. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a cell phone call for assistance at approximately 7:30 a.m. from a person aboard a 17-foot flat-bottomed boat that was swamped near Lake Lery in Reggio, Louisiana. The crew of the commercial fishing vessel Sea Ballad acted as good Samaritans and rescued five fellow commercial fishermen after the fishing vessel Star King, a 55-foot stern trawler homeported in Astoria, Ore., sank near the entrance to the Columbia River, Jan. 7, 2017. The five fishermen were transferred to an on-scene Coast Guard 47-foot Motor Life Boat, from Station Cape Disappointment, and were transported to and dropped off in Ilwaco, Wash., but declined medical care. PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Captain of the Port will close the Port of Virginia Friday at midnight in anticipation of Winter Storm Helena. Commercial vessels will be prohibited from entering and departing the Chesapeake Bay. Additionally, movement within the Port of Virginia will be closed to vessel traffic 5,000 gross tons or greater unless permission is granted by the Captain of the Port.
